"Market Towns Week" refers to a series of events that took place during 2004 and 2005 and were a great success. Over the two years 45 towns took part, attracting over half a million people in to their towns.
The events took place on the first May Bank Holiday each year.
Individually towns benefited by publicising their assets – but, collectively, all Market Towns acted together in the same week, which added great value to all their efforts.
The concept behind Market Towns Week was:
Market Towns matter. They are the very essence of England offering much joy and interest to both their residents and visitors through the great variety of regional styles and individual distinctiveness. That very distinctiveness is now the key to their survival.
